Thanks spitfire
I will be sticking around,as I have got older (40 next year) I have been more and more interested in local history and how life was for my dad and his family,I would be lost without my computer and sky tv.
But I love to listen to my dad tell me what he can remember about his childhood, sadly as he gets older (70 last friday)he finds it harder to remember dates and names.
He knows of no living relatives other than me, my sister and our families. He lives alone but has a computer and if I can convince him to get a phone line put in im sure he will spend many hours on this site also.
ps...I am also the proud owner of the 1901 census for Lancashire so if you would like an adress looking up, fire away.

Hi again
Just to save anyone interested some time, I also know about the EDWARD IDDON who lived in 6 Boundry street Leyland on the 1891 and 1901 census, married to Margeret Wilding.
They had at least 6 children, one of them was WALTER born 1896, the others were LILLIE born 1889...BERTIE born 1891...ALBERT born 1893...then WALTER...JESSIE born 1898...and GERTIE born 1901.
This could well be my family, but I can't find a link to my grandad HAROLD, as he was only born in 1906.
In an electoral register for 1918 there is no mention of HAROLD living with them, and he would have been 12 then.

Hi Noel, Was your wifes father Walter Iddon who worked at the BTR till he retired and also had a son Frank, he lived off Leyland lane I think and died in 1977, this Walter Iddon was a good friend of our family.
That's right Sandra, he lived down Dunkirk Lane and had a son Brian and daughter Margaret. He worked at BTR for 49 years before he was made redundant.
Ray I don't think it would be the same Walter, he was born in 1907 his wife was Annie and to the best of my knowledge they lived in Dunkirk Lane for a long time. They never mentioned any family except I do remember seeing an Aunt Polly from time to time.

Hi NOEL
You may be right, though 1907 would be about right as my dad thinks they were about the same age and he has memories of a ANNIE aventually living with his other grandparents in chorley.
But if your WALTER'S dad was'nt called EDWARD, then there is no link, thanks for replying.

I'm very interested in that info Bryan, as my wife hasn't a clue about any of her Dad's relatives apart from the fact he was born in Tarleton 1907. Could his dad have been William. Food for thought. Have you any idea which church they were baptised in?
