I just posted this on another thread, after reading this, perhaps it should have been posted here....
When we emigrated, 1964, the kids in school were still being punished by the teachers, the kids on the streets were still getting the occasional back hander from the local bobby, parents were still slapping their kids to keep them in control. So looking back, it's the generation, (parents of children born between circa 1960 thru 1975), is this you?, that brought about the the massive change in child disipline, that has led to the unruly state of the children of today, and which, IMO, has led to the PC correct brigade getting into power. And once in, there seems to be no turning back.
In 1964, we still had Christmas, Easter, Whitsuntide, Harvest Thanksgiving, prayers in school every morning, Religious Instruction, the Church Lads Brigade, Boy Scouts, Brownies, and Girl Guides, church doors were left open, bicycles were left unlocked, babies were left in their prams in front of Woolworths and British Home Stores...try that now a days.
