Sharon,I camr to work in Canada inearly 1980, so it was prior to then when the lady and gentleman were the proprietors of the Railway. At that time I occasionally called into the pub for a pint ( at the time the best pint in the area ,it was Lion) I was told that was so because the landlord religiously cleaned the pumps. The landlord had two sons, one lived nearbye, had a farm of some kind. The pub had a room on the left when you walked in, it went from front to back, there we had all manner of conversations (just like here on the forum), in those days the Railway was a real pub, rather than the large roomed eatery is today, I think it also had a bowling green !

Alan, I remember the old Railway Pub. It's now called the Midge Hall, everyone called it that anyway. You walked in a little foyer and then left to the bar and right to the pool room, it was so dark and dingy. It's changed now, still a little pub but just one big room now and rather than the bar being in the middle. The bar is now where the toilets used to be! and the pool room at the back. It is more of an eating place and does very good meals. There is a beer garden and a little bowling thing round the back. (not sure what they call it.) No idea of the landlord you mean. Think that may be before I was allowed in pubs!
