popups
#1
I keep getting web pages popping up when I'm surfing the net. Things like party poker and casino sites. I just keep x ing them, but they are really annoying. Any idea how to stop them? ps I do have Norton Antivirus, a pop up blocker and norton firewall and although I put their url on to try to stop them they still keep coming up.

I us Mozilla browser and don't get any pop ups, having said that I'm not sure if Mozilla has any influence over them. Hope someone else can help you

Kath, As Noel says, it depends on your browser. IE 7 has it`s own built-in blocker. If you don`t have the icon on the tool bar, go to tools and make sure blocker is enabled.

I've got the bloker enabled, but these whole web sites keep appearing. What's a Mozilla browser and how do I get/use it?

It's similar lay out to IE but simpler to operate and has it's own built in pop up. Claims are made it's more secure than IE, I don't know if that's true, you could try it here, if it doesn't help you can switch back t IE without any problems. Some plug ins are not supported by Mozilla ( Firefox). PNE Whitesworld video play back is one.

Kath, If you do try Firefox and like it, then also have a look at it`s sister program `Thunderbird`. Firefox is the browser and Thunderbird is the mail prog. I`ve used it for ages and love the way it sorts out and removes all the spam for you.

When do the websites popup Kat? I'd run a complete virus scan and some spyware/adware scans if I were you just to be on the safe side. It sounds like you've got something on your pc that keeps loading these sites.

They appear whenever I'm logged on to the internet. I'll try the scans again. Not sure how to use the spyware/adware scans though but I'll have a go. I seem to remember this happening once before when I had msn messenger. I went into the properties and had to uncheck the box with allow sponsor sites on it. That stopped them appearing then. I don't have messenger anymore, so it can't be that. Noel and Jim, I'll try the Firefox and see how I get on. Do I have to change my e mail address if I move onto it?

[Big Grin][Big Grin][Big Grin] Big smiles. I've installed Firefox and so far so good, no web sites appearing (touch wood). Thanks Noel, Martin and Spitfire. I'm just going to try the Thunderbird one now because I can't find the mail icon on the toolbar. Thanks again.

No you don't change your address. If you find the e-mail icon let me know, cos I can't either.
