To follow up on the postings about cleaning out cookies, etc., I thought I'd alert you all to a neat piece of software called "Window Washer".
My son-in-law intrduced me to it. It cleans out what he calls "all the extraneous crap" that a lot of software puts on your computer, including cookies.
The neat thing, compared to using the Windows cookie eliminator, is that you can tell it which cookies you want to keep and it only wipes off the others. I haven't set it up yet, but the way you do is to do an unrestricted "wash", which wipes off all the cookies, then you go through all the sites you frequently visit where they normally remember your login, and sign in. Then you go back to Window Washer and tell it not to wipe off those cookies you just identified the next time you use it. The first time I ran it, it got me over 300 Kbytes extra space, but I haven't done Part 2 yet. Since I have a 160 MB disk, maybe saving 300K is not critical, but it was impressive, and only took a couple of minutes.
It's a product of "WebRoot" who also do a good spyware eliminator program which my ISP is now offering as a freebie. The usual disclaimers apply - I have no commercial interest in WebRoot. I just think it's a neat bit of work.
