What a lovely series 'Cranford' was, excellent Sunday night viewing and an excellent cast, and the final episode last night. A bit disappointing that it was only a fleeting glance of the Morris dancers last week.

A 'blink' would do it Jim - I sat glued to the TV during the May Day scene, it was difficult to tell which were Leyland Morris men, and of course they were dressed differently to how we usually see them, and there was so much going on in the foreground. but well done BBC, and how refreshing to watch a full series that made you laugh and cry in every episode, with no bad language or sex.

I cried my eyes out at the last episode. Daughter doesn't usually go for period dramas, but she was glued to every episode with me. I hadn't realised the Morris men were from Leyland - pity their appearance was so brief. But it's all good publicity for them!

A little interesting bit of information - I just looked back at the cast list in the TV Times, and there is a picture of the 'Star of the Day'. On Sunday it was Imelda Staunton who played (brilliantly)Miss Pole, one of the village busy-bodies, and it stated that she is married to Jim Carter who was also in the series (Major Brown in charge of the construction of the new railway).

I loved 'Cranford, and couldn't help thinking how much fun the actors must have had making it.Such a wealth of talent eve among the small parts.. Brilliant acting and great authenticity.
As Spitfire says -'sumptuous fare' and the BBC do these adaptations so well.
We even got the history books out to check out Victoria's ancestry and dates.
The story covered such a wide range of human emotions -could be sad but also so funny and the detail shown to costumes and social niceities and attitudes was amazing.

]. I have to agree Smithy. Only the BBC (despite it`s many faults) can turn out such sumptuous fare.
