Aldi Store plan traffic fears
#11
The last I heard from one of the traders, Chapel Brow was being considered for one-way traffic... I think there was also a half-baked scheme to turn Hough Lane and King St into a one-way system, but that might have died a death.

I think the next stage will have to be a "Towngate relief route" - a dual carriage way along Balcarres Rd from the Eagle to Turpin Green.

I had a phone call today, a market research study. Would I be prepared to use Morrison's if and when they build a new store on Golden Hill Lane.
They could well be coming by the sounds of it. I presume it's on the old L&B site.

Forget a taxi rank! We need a bus station like in the new one in Chorley! It would certianly be useful!

Ideal location... the waste land next to Tescos on St Andrews Way across from the fitness centre. Leyland should definately have a proper bus station! Hundreds of buses travel to and from Leyland every day! The bus station should be used by all the bus companies.

Also Leyland Train Station needs a complete refurbishment! It's got to be the worst railway station in Lancashire!... Even Pleasington, Cherry Tree and Mill Hill stations are better! Look at Euxton Train Station as an example.

Also I think they should re-open Midge Hall and make it into a proper station. Call it Leyland Midge Hall. It would be useful for all of those West Leyland towns like Moss Side, Bretherton, Wymott, Ulnes Walton, even Longton and New Longton... Not only that, there is a big industrial estate nearby who's work force would nodoubt use.

Also the benefits of a new train station at Hidge Hall wold re-open links with the rest of West Lancashire.

Going back to the original topic... Chapel Brow should be made busses only and that should be down the hill leading to the round about only! Chapel Brow/Golden Hill Lane has to be the worst junction/road surface in South Ribble! The poposed changes are long over due!!

There was a council planning meeting on the 28th January to discuss the Aldi plans. Has anyone heard any feedback from that meeting?

Martin, Yes, the plans were passed and it`s all systems go! I bet it was one of the reasons that Booths decided to close it`s Leyland branch. I remember when the children were young. It was one of their treats to give the coffee beans to the gentleman, who would then proceed to grind them up for us.

It's the end of an era Booths closing. They are expensive but you can get certain things there eg the freshly ground coffee that even Sainsbury's don't do.

I didn't know that they were closing. I suppose you can have too many supermarkets in one area.

When did Booths close?? I'm sad because I always used to go there with my kids. My small daughter got into the habit of asking for the loo so we had to go up the stairs and through the storeroom- this brightened up our shopping trips no end .
What has happened to the screen, my message is about ten yards long??!!! Now it's gone shorter!!! I feel like Alice in Wonderland!! And why do I have to log in with my password all of a sudden?,
