What caught your eye today.
Jim:

We'll definitely give the Barm Cake recipe a try. Eileen still uses the Balshaw's Home Economics class recipe for Christmas Cake, but yours sounds a lot more fun!

It reminded me of a range of kitchen items sold at a local store with the logo "I LOVE to cook with wine. Sometimes I even put it in the food".

Central Radio closing down it's Preston based centre.

Central Radio to close in days
UTV Media is to close its Preston based station, Central Radio and hand the licence back to the industry regulator, Ofcom.

Staff were informed of Central Radio’s imminent closure at a meeting held at the station earlier today. The station will cease broadcasting on the 24th December.

UTV won the radio licence for Preston, Leyland and Chorley in December 2006 and launched the station in September 2008.

This marks the third station closure by UTV in a year. Just 12 months ago, the company announced it was closing Talk 107 in Edinburgh on Christmas Eve 2008. The station actually closed a day earlier than expected on December 23rd. In April this year, South Wales' Valleys Radio was also closed by the Stoke-on-Trent based group.

Commenting on the latest closure, Calum Macaulay, Director of Local Radio for UTV Media, said: “We won the licence against strong competition, but unfortunately had to launch the station in the middle of the worst recession in memory. We have been looking closely at the station’s viability and unfortunately given the economic climate we have taken the difficult decision to close the station.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff of Central Radio. The station’s closure is no reflection on the effort and hard work they have put in since the station’s inception and I wish them all success in their future endeavours.”

I KNOW that I am going to be shot down for my comments, but here they are anyway.
I think that he DESERVED to die. How many lives would have been ruined injecting the 3 kilos of heroine/cocaine that he tried to smuggle in?

The same sentence should be served on ANYONE else who uses or supplies this pernicious drug. That includes the likes of Winehouse and Docherty.

I entirely agree with you Jim, it's a pity the British government made 27 wasted efforts to get him a repieve, surely they can find better things to do !
Just one more example of how out of touch politicians are !

The fact that this vulnerable man who had learning difficulties was naive and hoodwinked into carrying the said drugs makes no difference then !! Typical Middle England knee jerk reaction ! And no I dont condone drug trafficking. This reminds me of poor Derek Bentley and Timothy Evans similar scenarios in that proper psychological tests were not carried out before their unfortunate demises !

How do you know he was hoodwinked Phil, don't believe every sob story when these drug mules get caught.
Good riddance I say.

Incidentally what caught my eye today, wife rubbing the windows furiously with what she thought was windowlene. "It's useless this windowlene" then looks at label on bottle "Oh it's Dettol".
Same colour same type of spray bottle but Dettol kitchen cleaner.
