Strayed onto the forum accidentally; oh boy, what a load of memories!

I'm George Park, originally from Avondale Drive in Lostock Hall, went to the primary school there with my mates Robin Bourn from Todd Lane North and Philip Walters from Prospect Avenue, then we went to Balshaws together in '57. We used to catch the S18 bus from the Moss Street stop on Brownedge Road where the houses were set back a bit and there was room to kick a tennis ball around whilst waiting. Sadly lost touch with both (and indeed with everyone else both from Lostock Hall and Balshaws) soon after when I joined the Army. I know from Robin's Mum that he went to Birmingham (I'd just missed him when I called whilst visiting my Mum who was still at Avondale) and I believe Philip went to work in the Labs at ROF Euxton and was living in Heskin.

Noel Eckton I remember you, you may recall that on the Saturday that the GCE results were posted in school, Robin, Philip and myself had cycled there and called at your house on the way home with your results. You mention St James' church at the top of Avondale Drive, I was in the choir until about '63 and used to carry the cross on processions.

I still visit my middle brother and his wife in Avondale Drive (same house we were brought up in); Mum passed away in 2002 after may years membership of the Mothers' Union along with her friend Gillian Sumner's mum who is also mentioned on here and still going strong at 97!!

If anyone wants to get in touch, please do. 'Bye for now.

Hi George,
I enjoyed reading your memories as I too used to catch the S18 bus to school and lived opposite Robin Bourn on Todd Lane North, just a little further down past the shop. We used to walk up the lane together to catch the bus, along with Kathleen Jackson, but then we'd be sidelined when he met up with you and Philip Walters at Moss Street! You probably won't remember me as I was in the class below you, my maiden surname was Browne.
I last saw Robin in 1976 when he came up to stay with his mum for a few days with his wife Wendy and their lovely little baby girl called Jenny. They later had another daughter called Lucy, I think. I believe he moved to London. Do you remember the Emery family who lived on Avondale Drive? There were quite a lot of them and the eldest boy, Thomas, was in my class at LH Junior School.

Hello Dotty,
I replied to your above by email through the forum on the 4th October with further detail and questions about other people from Todd Lane North at primary school... followed up with an email earlier this month asking if you had received it... Is there a problem?
Best Regards
George

George:

There have been some problems with "talktalk" recently.

Sorry, George, I don't appear to have received anything from you - I do know that I can't send or receive anything via Outlook Express as I'm on Yahoo. Perhaps you could ask me the questions via this forum and I'll try to answer them?

It's a good idea to check your profile from time to time to make sure that the e-mail you have on there is current. When someone sends an e-mail though the forum, it's the one in your profile that is used.

I've kept a Yahoo address specifically for that. In the last week or so, all my messages to my sister on talktalk.net from my regular Comcast link have been rejected, but Yahoo got through OK.

Hello Dotty,
My email to you was quite lengthy so will precis it somewhat here. Firstly yes, I remember the Emerys, they lived next door to us at No8, there were a lot of them...

My query concerned three other Todd Lane Northers who went to the Council School in Avondale Drive - Harvey Aspinall, Kathleen McCann and Michael Dixon. Do you know what happened to them?
Regards
George

Hello George,
Yes I can give you some info on two of them: Harvey, sadly, was killed in a mountaineering accident many years ago. I knew his younger sister Pauline, who died from cancer a number of years ago. Kathleen McCann lives quite locally, just off Croston Road in Lostock Hall, I believe. Her dad, Albert, who must be around 90 now, still lives in the same bungalow on Todd Lane North. Kathleen's mum Vera died in the 1960s. Don't know about Michael Dixon, but Peter Dewhurst (if you knew him) still lives on Todd Lane North with his wife, opposite the railway houses where he grew up. My profile email is still listed as Outlook Express, but when I tried to get it updated to Yahoo it wouldn't do it!

Dotty, try sending a test email to me through the forum and I'll see if I can respond to it.
