Is it just me or does anyone else think that the direction of traffic on Chapel Brow should be reversed? The junction with Golden Hill Lane/Station Brow is a nightmare, not only at rush hour but at any time of day, with deliveries to The Queens/other obstructing vehicles making exiting the juction a dangerous enterprise. A change of traffic flow direction might also reduce some of the congestion around Churchill Way, ie. traffic heading towards the motorway/town centre being able to avoid the badly phased traffic lights and instead using the right of way function of the roundabout. I may be contacting the council about this issue but thought I would try to seek other leylander's opinions first.

I always though the configuration was a dumb idea. It would work well if the UK drove on the right like the US does, but to make all that traffic cross over each other's stream is ridiculous, unless the objective was to snarl everything up!

This topic has arose before on here possibly started by me ! And Frank, niggles aside, surely does it not depend on which way you are turning at the top of Chapel Brow ? As it is, if you are turning left then you join the flow of traffic and right you cross over to join the flow. Would that not just be reversed if we drove on the right ? Or maybe I am missing something here !

What you haven't taken into consideration is that Chapel Brow is now a very narrow shopping alley mainly cafes and take-aways. In the original thread I said it was the wrong way round but seeing the area now, it's right, otherwise all the traffic on the main road would be channelled down it whereas now it's channelled away and taken past the entrance to the small shopping area where Lidl etc are.

Maybe they should close it completely and make Churchill Way the only route between Hough Lane and Golden Hill.

Quite honestly, Jim, I'm just throwing out ideas. I haven't driven through there since they made it one way and I'm still a bit surprised to see Churchill Way. That went in after we emigrated! Also, I really have to think about RH drive and being on the left side of the street when doing these "mind pictures".
I don't have a problem driving in England because you do get quite strong mental and visual stimuli being on the other side of the car! Not having that on a motorcycle is one reason why I never went to two wheels here in the US.

Having done both, I find it far easier to drive my car on the `wrong` side of the road when abroad, than it is to drive a left-hand drive car, over here. I recently drove one and the floor gear change took some getting used to as the gate was `back-to-front`.

In principle it would be a good idea in my opinion, but people these days are simply too lazy to park their cars on the car park by the roundabout and walk across the road. Also the car park charge puts many off.

I have had cars pull out on me when I have been travelling along Golden Hill Lane from either direction. I to have taken a risk on the odd occasion when attempting to turn right out of Chapel Brow. Cyclists and traffic suddenly shooting out of the Railway Station car park are added dangers when attempting the right turn manoeuvre. I am surprised there hasn't been any accidents worthy of news coverage to be honest !
