youth clubs in the early 60 s
#11
The other youth club was the Methodist Church's "Clubland". The nationwide church had an umbrella organisation, the Methodist Association of Youth Clubs. While I was in the Leyland club, I went to a national convention of the MAYC at the Royal Albert Hall.

Eileen and I had known each other from our early childhood, but our relationship developed at Clubland and here we are in Anacortes, having recently celebrated our 47th wedding anniversary. Amazing!

Our children are all married and with one exception, all live in Western Washington. Eldest daughter Sarah lives in south Everett, about 65 miles away. Second daughter Rachel lives in Kirkland, about 72 miles away and third daughter, Andrea lives in Lacey (a suburb of the state capital Olympia) about 130 miles away.

The renegade is our son Matthew, who lives in Chiba City, a suburb east of Tokyo. His wife is from there and they met when he was in the US Navy, stationed at Yukosaka. They moved to Japan after about 12 years living in Everett, when Matthew got a job with the French computer company, Dassault Systemes.
Frank Damp (wife Eileen, nee Nixon)
Leyland resident 1941-1965, emigrated to the US in 1968,
retired to Anacortes, Washington State, USA in 1999.

My youth club days were a little bit later. In the early 70s we used to go to St Ambrose on Sunday night to play 5-a-side football in the side hall. If I ever hear Cozy Powell - Dance With The Devil (very apt for a church youth club) or Slade - Come On Feel The Noise it always reminds me of then.

I used to go there !! Do you remember they had a band on once in the main hall called Copper Kettle ? We thought at the time it was awesome and I guess live music has been in my blood ever since ! I used to go with John " Muggy " Maguire and his brothers Bern and Mike. There was a big gang of us inc Turk, Fraz, The Dewhursts and a few more who's names have slipped my memory banks ! " Rock n Roll Parts 1 & 2 " by Gary Glitter was a big fav there as well

I do indeed !! I also used to knock about with Bill Leyland and Stringy !! Throw in Howard Legg as well and it would appear I am never going to be short of a painter and decorator !! Our Graham is funny and always making a joke of everything ! Must run in the family !!
