Although the subject seems to have gone 'off the boil'' of recent times.
A giant leap forward was proposed in a recent illustrated circular from the ''garbage-people'' who have blighted the lives of residents of Farington Moss for so long
For the first time, they acknowledged that the 'smell-problem' was impossible to resolve with their present 'mind-set' of 'biological-beds',
And laid out the 'schematic-drawings'' for passing these 'smells' through a fancy-named 'fire-bed', at 950 degrees C, and then reclaiming 95% of the heat by using 'ceramic-calorifiers' heat exchangers.
At last, there seems to be 'PROPER-MECHANICAL-ENGINEERS' involved with this situation.
For those with a memory, 2 years ago, it was posted-here that two individuals, caused aggravation and 'ruffled-feathers' at the 'garbage-center' evening meeting when they pointed out.
That there WAS NOT A SINGLE 'PROPER-MECHANICAL-ENGINEER' with industrial experience, among the high-paid ''experts'' who turned up at these 'on expense aqccount jollies' and who just kept repeating the platitudes (propaganda) espoused by the LANCASHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL henchmen. And the only way to destroy the 'smells' was by passing them through a hot-flame.
It would seem, that the LCC has NOW put in the 'loop', some engineers with 'incinerator-experience', who know what they are talking about..
Why has it taken several years of 'broken-promises' and much discomfort by the local-population, and to some 'health-problems'
To arrive at a conclusion, that was obvious from the 'get-go', if they were to keep their promises made at the planning permission stage. Of NO SMELLS WILL COME FROM THIS GARBAGE-DUMP
And very important to the residents, HOW LONG ARE THESE INCOMPETANTS GOING TO TAKE, TO IMPLEMENT THEIR PLAN.

Welcome to the forum Hector. I despair on this one, the plant should never have been built where it is as I have said on numerous occasions. Lancashire County Councillors responsible should hang their heads in shame, but they have none of course.

As the Chair of RAWS up until the judicial review (which wasn't the way forward)I am staggered that nobody has ever sought any form of compensation against the company.
Them saying "it's not something we do" is unacceptable and something that should have been tested, when they made their stupid statement.
The simple fact is that the only site that the waste plant can be compared to is its sister plant in Eastern Creek Australia which is blighted by smells, to the extent that there are even billboards on the local motorway advising commuters of the complaints number.
As Chair, I even had an email from the local church that stated that it was a problem!
Sadly the reports of smells fell on the deaf ears of Lancashire County Council and their ignorance to facts has brought the problems it has.
LCC have now got Global Renewables to compensate the community but someone should be pushing for compensation for individuals.
The RAWS judicial review was largely funded by the arrangement of the Tory then Member of Parliament candidate Lorraine Fullbrook so perhaps the MP could broker a similar arrangement now.
Assistance by the MP will be frowned upon by her party at LCC, who have already moaned about the costs of the judicial review that she helped force on the tax payers but IF she is still willing to support the residents affected concerns about what her party think should be irrelevant.

without question, there is/was a lack of joined-up thinking, from the 'get-go'
However, the implication of the proposals 'now-en-train' concerning the passing of the 'smelly-biologicals' presently blighting the neighbourhood, THROUGH A 950c FIRE-BED is far reaching, and WILL effectively destroy the smelly aerosols that result from 'rotting-the-garbage' to make gas and compost.
THE question, is how long, will it take for the proposals to be implemented.
The best way to apply pressure to this situation, is to phone-up, get the complaint forms, and fill them in.
THEY can ignore e-mails, etc, but 'paper-mail' leaves a traceable trail.
They have been 'fined' many thousands of £'s, BUT the socialist-gang in Lancs county Council, flatly refuse to compensate those who have been affected. In the area of Farington Moss, I have listened to their 'mouth-music-players', at the regular meetings, give all manner of excuses for this outrageous behaviour.
And spend the 'fine-money' on other socialist-dream-projects.
Incidentally, now that the blaire/brown CARBON-TAXES, adding to our financial-woes, (being given to india, china, russia et-al) are in force, haa anyone noticed how that THE MAN-MADE GLOBAL WARMING SWINDLE, is no longer in the news. The BBC/media-gang propagandists did their job well, and frightened the populice into silence.
And the envirometalist advocate at the 'garbage-meeting' NOW no longer mentions the CARBON-FOOTPRINT, consequence of burning the 'garbage-gas' to stop the smells. (and reducing the profits from their electrical-generation to National Grid, program)
Why is that?????? I sometimes wonder if the people ruling us, have our interests as their 1st priority

As the only person from South Ribble to have ever voted against the waste plant at Farington, I am not surprised by some of the troubles it has encountered. The use of 'cutting edge' technology in such a site was always, in my view, going to have the potential to cause unneccesary inconveniance to local residents. Unfortunately I have been proved right.
I understand that Golbal Renewables have now paid over £100,000 in fines for 'non compliance' and that money has been given to a local committee to spen as they see fit in Farington.
I do have to challenge a couple of comments by 'Hector' though. To call Lancashire County Council a 'socialist gang' is frankly laughable. The Conservatives took control of LCC over three years ago and have a significant majority there. I can think of many things to call the curent Tory cabinet at LCC, but socialist is not one of them! Also to somehow decide that taking action against climate change is a Blair/Brown agenda is quite bizarre. Governments around the world, including the current Tory one, recognise the need to cut down on our use of fossil fuels. Even if you refuse to buy in to the evidence of climate change, you must recognise that fossil fuels are a limited resource and we ought to be doing all we can to conserve them.

I thought South Ribble Council were against the idea Matt? There was talk of putting up £54k or so to launch an appeal if the Tories gained power ( which suggests the Tories of South Ribble certainly didn't vote for it.

Matt:
An alternative to all the "consrve at all costs" ideas was proposed (tongue in cheek of course) that we get all our gas-guzzling vehicles out of storage and burn off as much gasoline and diesel as we can as quickly as possible. Once we've used it up there will absolutely have to be working non-fossil transportation systems developed. I think the idea was proposed by Jeremy Clarkson.
Of course some poeple say "fight pollution by going back to horses". They don't know much about exhaust emissions from horses. A recent study to see what transporting all the people in New York City who currently use taxis by horse-drawn means would reult in horse droppings covering all the streets to a depth of 5 feet.

SRBC unanimously (apart from Anne Brown who walked out before the vote) voted against the waste plant, when it came before them, but it counted for nothing because it wasn't their decision to make.
No matter how hard we tried we couldn't get our SRBC politicians to persuade their colleagues at LCC to do the same.
Cllrmatt was the only one (from South Ribble) who did vote against the proposals but his 'difficult decision' appeared sadly more todo with knowing that the result of the vote by LCC was already made and he could do it, save face etc with the knowledge that it would be voted in anyway.
Not sure about 'the talk' mentioned, I just remember an email from Lorraine Fullbrook before the judicial review asking how she could help which, as I understand it, lead to 'a donation' from a Tory then being made.
Like cllrmatt I am also a bit baffled by Hectors comments. Again as far as I understand it, the only person who can decide were compensation is paid is the court not the business nor LCC which is why, as mentioned, I am staggered that nobody has sought to challenge them.
