Ii have to say Joanne i do feel for you, people dont realise that to have bad neighbours or a troublesome street can really make your life a total misery specially if you aren't built that way and just want a quiet life.
some people just dont care if they show themselves up on the street by shouting and fighting, but thats a sign of the times i think. Some people are just off their heads on drink and drugs, but thats happens everywhere these days, no sense of purpose in life is my opinion.
i cant see it getting any better soon and although i know myself with just moving from yorkshire, its very stressful but in the long run if you are really this unhappy where you live you will do yourself a big favour if you move, although i know that that is easier said than done in the current climate..

good luck to you joanne

I sincerely hope Joanne can find somewhere more friendly than where she is living.

On the subject of Moss Side, when I was small it consisted largely of smallholdings with a few terraced and semi-detached houses on the far side of the River Lostock, all of them in the St James's ward of the old UDC.

Later, my late father and sister lived for several years in the block of flats opposite St James's church, and my visits to them (from Plymouth where I moved in 1977) led me to think that the area had been adversely affected by the expansion under the auspices of the disaster that was the Central Lancashire New Town.

Having said that, it surely borders on the snobbish to talk of "overspill" and "outsiders"???

Perhaps time will heal. At 62 I am well old enough to remember the same things being said of the (supposed) Wiganers who alledgedly made up the majority of tenants of the Wade Hall estate in the 1950s.

Joanne, I think you've just been unlucky. I have a friend who's lived on Greystones, near you, since the houses were built. She works in Housing herself said that the estate was a bit rough at first as displaced people have less attachment to an area and don't care so much, but as their children grow up and have their own families, things get better.
I've seen the estate improve over thirty-odd years and was pleasantly surprised when I moved to Slater Lane after 20 years abroad- the area, especially round the shops has much improved.
We do get the sirens several times a day,and I know there must be some crime in the area, but I've put most of it down to ambulances taking the by-pass route to Chorley.
I know how much it can affect you, having such awful neighbours- you need to have a word with other neighbours who are affected, and contact the police for advice about anti-social behaviour. If you do this, you won't feel so powerless.

hi Joanne,
I read your post and it made me quite sad as your problems are very very similar to why i left Preston-including the fact im southern in accent,i work from home and am disabled-my neighbour has some pretty awful views all made up of course as im a very private person-i think she was itching to know my business-no chance lol. Saying that if you know no one it can make you feel like your all alone with the hell going on-i understand that.

Please let me assure you not everybody is as ignorant and nasty as the people you have encountered-since moving here i have had my faith in human peeps restored substantially, and im a nice person so we are about i promise you :~)
I live just off Dunkirk lane so must be pretty close to you,i to have noticed a fair few blueys going past but mainly on Dunkirk whizzing off wherever they go.....if they are in your road alot id take it as a positive-maybe someone has made them aware of said neighbours so theyre observing?
Incidentely keep your excess toms and pelt them at said pee heads! ;-) -just trying to make light of a horrid situation x

Goodness-I grew up in the Old Smithy House on Dunkirk, went to St. James church and school, and then to Balshaw's before moving far away. I know they built a new housing estate opposite the church, and I had heard some bad things years ago but thought it was all sorted. Not been back in quite a few years now, but it does make me sad to hear such bad things going on. I hope Joanne is able to get away from her horrible neighbors. When I was a kid, it was always the Wade Hall estate that was considered a bit rough.
