Are others plagued with charity collection bags the way we are? We can get 4 or 5 in a week on occasion and never a week goes by when we don't have at least 1 or 2.
I read somewhere that some councils in England have an on-line list which people can refer to in order to ascertain whether the bag they have just received is genuine or not.
When I rang South Ribble council about this I spoke to a gentleman who was very polite, but managed to give the impression that he thought I was asking for the moon.
There doesn't seem to be any way of checking on these bags other than trying to track down the charities involved or apparently labelled.
The reason why I am so wary of these is that a few years ago I had put out a sack full of some quite good stuff, which went from the drive. I later saw the van of the charity named cruising round about an hour later and obviously all the bags left out had already been taken by somebody else. I did in that case contact the charity involved - Age Concern I think and they said it happens often.
I really wonder why more can't be done to protect these charities - it would be so easy to set up a database, but South Ribble are lagging behind in this respect.
I learnt the hard way and now take my items down to the St. Catherine's collection site.
