Vacationing in Leyland ;-))
William, The old farmhouse is now divided up into two houses and was like that when we moved here to Paradise lane over 25 years ago. I don`t know who had lived there when it was a farm, but a friend (who used to farm in this area) walks her dog past the house every day, so I`ll put the question, next time I see her.

Jim, same here, I had a relative lived on Paradise Lane ,named Parr, does that ring a bell ?

Alan, I knew Harry Parr who lived at the barn around the corner on Cocker Lane. Same one perhaps?

Thanks Jim ,years ago when we were children , Harry and I used to often play together, his parents were Lena and Syd ! Harry had a model car that you could sit in and pedal ,something rare as you'll likely recall in those late wartime days of no frills no toys and rationing !

Al; When liquorice root was the toffee of the day ?
Reply
Yes that's so David, and peanut butter on the rare occasions it was available, was sold by the spoonful and dispensed on greaseproof paper .

I don't know if liquorice root is readily available everywhere, but there it was last summer in a big glass jar ,and I purchased some at the Apothacery in the beautiful town of Niagara on the Lake, Ontario !

Not readily - you'd have to go somewhere like a health food shop to find it these days.

Did we call the licorice root "Spanish"? I remember it had a different name from the black bootlace type.

I remember getting it from Polly Darwin's shop at the Cross.
