Vehicle Rally 2004
#1
I note that it`s the vehicle rally again this coming Sunday! (Can it really be a year since the last one?).
Martin, I wondered if it was worth replacing last years set of photos with a current crop. I don`t know what work is involved by yourself in posting them - or even if they are sufficiently interesting to the forum in general.
Anyway - let me know if you think it`s worth me producing another set.

If you mail the pictures to me Jim, I'll make up another page for them.

On one of my weekend stop-overs in Leyland, there was a big gathering of vintage preserved buses at the Museum and at the Fishwick garage, to celebrate Fishwick's 90th anniversary. The event included a round-the-houses route being run by several of the visiting buses.

I'm guessing that was at least 8 years ago. Can anyone advise when the 100th anniversary of the company occurs?

Frank, It wasn`t a bad guess as the celebrations to mark 100 years of service takes place in 2007.
There are several photos showing the garage and parking areas and I wondered how that view will have changed by the time that all the building work (old BTR site) is completed. When the factory was demolished, one got a new uninterrupted view of Fishwick`s fron Golden Hill Lane.

Hundreds hit the road for a vintage celebration

Leyland's British Commercial Vehicle Museum celebrated its 120th birthday with a drop of vintage.

Beautiful classic vehicles including horse-drawn coaches, veteren lorries and old-style buses were on show as part of a museum exhibition at Leyland Trucks Works in Croston Road.
They had come from all over the UK. One vehicle, a vintage 1948 Leyland Tiger Bus, had arrived home all the way from Sheffield.
One man, William Hunter, from Holmes, Tarleton, near Preston, arrived with three lorries – a 1936 Leyland Cub, a 1936 Leyland Beaver and a 1956 Leyland Octupus.

Lovely pics, Jim! If I get the chance, I must take a photo of one of the old Leyland buses in Gozo this year.

Linda, Don`t be tempted to untie any of the knots in the many pieces of rope you find on those old Leylands - one of them could just be keeping the engine in place. (I bet you think that I`m joking!!!!).
