Royal Mail

Does anyones mail still arrive on time? Our mail arrived like clockwork for years at around 8.30AM (It was 7.30AM on Saturdays because (I assume) the postie wanted to start his weekend as early as possible). Now it`s anything up to 3.30PM in the afternoon and we havn`t received a Saterday delivery for five weeks now. (Does the postman start his weekends on Friday afternoons now?).

Ours has never arrived early morning as long as we've been in this house (16 years today actually!), but the time of delivery has become more variable recently - anything from 9.30 to 1pm. You never see the same postman around for very long either - do they have a high turnover of staff these days?

Ours used to be about 8am but now it's more like 2pm or sometimes later.
Still , as it's usually bills I don't mind.

We used to get two deliveries a day, one was before I set off for work. Since they changed the service to one a day, it is much later.

Does it really matter what time of day the mail arrives as long as it is delivered within a certain number of hours of posting? We have become accustomed to the mail being delivered first thing in the morning presumably because it was transported across the country overnight. If the Royal Mail has found a way of delivering the mail more efficiently and thereby saving us money, I dont mind if it arrives in the afternoon. It would be nice to know approximately when it will be arriving and the royal mail should have informed us of the new system.

When I had a young family and money was tight I used to dread the postman coming.

It's not how many hours but how many days I have to wait for the post that bothers me. Sample mailouts have taken over a week in some cases.

According to the local tax office, it doesn`t matter which MONTH it arrives.
I sent a letter to them in June, not having had a reply by July I telephoned them. Their reply was breathtaking. `We are still dealing with May`s letters, we havn`t started on June`s yet. This is at the end of July!!!!

I ordered some vitamin tablets over the internet, they arrived on Saturday, some 11 days later than the posted first class date on the package. Yes it does matter.

I sent a letter to Malta confirming our flight times etc. so the people we were renting our holiday flat from could organise a taxi to collect us from the airport. That was sent a fortnight before we left, so should have arrived in plenty of time. Thank goodness we had also confirmed our arrival time by telephone as the letter arrived the day before we left Malta - 4 weeks after it had been posted!

I think most of the fault lies with the Maltese post. Last year postcards home were taking 3 or 4 days to arrive, this year it was more like 3 or 4 weeks!
