Talking of plastic

quote:

UEFA have sanctioned the use of artificial turf in all European competitions, including internationals, and the organisation’s president Lennart Johansson has even suggested that Arsenal install it in their new Ashburton Grove stadium.

A backward step.
Many career threatening injuries, particularly knee injuries are caused by the fact that the plastic matrix is not as yielding as mother earth, players left Deepdale quoting the plastic as the reason for leaving.

And yet American's have been playing on Astro turf for years in a much more rough and tumble game. Some high schools are even opting for Astro turf, two in our area in the last five years.. Perhaps the Preston plastic pitch was of inferior quality ?

In Grid Iron , the skin damage is taken away by the clothing worn. I don't know about the rest, I have a piece of North End's plastic pitch in my house and it's very abrasive and rigid. I keep hearing technology has moved on in platic pitches but that was said when North End had their's installed. I recall when that great team Cambridge United had in the early nineties came to Deepdale on Boxing Day, they wore black tights under their shorts to prevent skin abarasions.
