Karen, do you recall "Pablo's" ice cream parlour in Blackpool, it was similar to a factory in a back alley quite a distance from the promonade somewhere near the Winter Gardens, the ice cream was delicious as was obvious by the length of the line up ( Queue) to purchase.
Another popular ice cream manufacturer was Bonds of Elswick .

Frankits .. was by the soccer stadium in Bloomfield Road.
The whole depot was there ...factory .. garage .. and a snackbar by the side entrance .. I sold hotdogs, tea etc there on game days..... I did the british railway thing with the teapot .. pouring along rows of cups .. great fun!!!
There was also a cafe on the front of the parking lot .. owned by my boyfriend (at that time)'s parents .. most of the players (but not Sir Stan) came there for lunch etc.
My aunt (Derek Astin's mom .. anyone remember him?) had a boarding house one block up from there ..I also helped her every holiday.
I still love Blackpool ..PJ my youngest and I spent a day in the Tower courtesy of Trevor Hemmings last Fall ..it was wonderful.

Just been reading all the input with regard to icecream makers in Leyland, no one seems to have mentioned Crooks on Towngate, a tiny shop in a row of cottages just past the library, they also sold sweets of every sort. I can remember calling in on the way home from Sunday School every week.Last time I was in Leyland 5 years ago I tried a Robinsons! not the same.

Hello, Terry - I remember the Robinsons ice cream van very well as a child in the 1950s. I lived in Lostock Hall then but the van used to park near the shop on Todd Lane North. The lady in charge of the van would often ask one of we youngsters to pop across to the shop and get her a packet of Du Maurier cigarettes, and I quickly learned that the one who volunteered would receive an extra scoop of the delicious ice cream!! quote]Originally posted by Terry
Now I have traveled a bit and consider myself to be a bit of an expert on the subject of ice cream, I mean real ice cream not this whippy stuff, I can remember only two ice cream makers in and around Leyland, one was Oldfields his ice cream was yellow and lumpy, he used to come round Farington in a horse and cart.
The other was Robinsons on leyland lane, I used to help make it when I lived on leyland lane, they also had horses that we used to ride.

Hi Alan, I remember "Pablo's" ice cream parlour in Blackpool, too! My grandma had a friend (Mrs Walker) who ran a small boarding house on Wall Street, North Shore and we used to go and stay. Mrs Walker sometimes used to take me to Pablo's as a treat. Also recall an ice cream van on the sands called "Naventi's" at that time which sold beautiful golden-yellow ice cream. There was O'Hagan's Fish Bar, too - OK, I know it's not ice cream, but the fish & chips were delicious all the same! quote:

This is the shop I mentioned on an earlier post- you went down a step or two into it and their lovely ice cream had lumps of ice in it . Also along that row was a haberdashers.
