Ice cream.

My favourite was a dollop of their ice cream in a long, conical dish filled with what I think we then called American Cream Soda and eaten with a long spoon.

Colin,
That was our treat too (after riding in the front upstairs seat on the double decker bus from Leyland).
I remember watching with amazement as a man ate icecream AND had a cup of coffee at the same time!
The other main thing I remember about Proud Preston was Winston Churchill giving the V sign from a balcony near the Market Square when he visited on a tour after the war.

I think two "C's" and one "N", Bro. I remember a trip while I was still at Boeing when I went into Preston on the bus from Slater Lane to get some British goodies to take home. After about 45 minutes in town, I started to develop a headache. It got progressively worse, so I cut my trip short.

When I got home. my sister said "What's your problem?" When I said it was a crushing headache, her reply was "You've been drinking decaf since you got here. Maybe you need some real coffee". One cup and I was fine.

If I'd gone to Brucciani's as I had originally intended to do, their coffee would have fixed the problem.

Bruccianos was my mums bribe to me when she 'dragged'me shopping with her when I was a child, if I behaved we would go to brucies and I could have an ice cream while she had a much needed coffee[Big Grin] I very rarely go to Preston these days so haven't been there for a long time. Must have a trip soon[Big Grin]

Thanks for that, Frank - I had not spotted them, but then I almost never take a tea break when out shopping!
