I can`t argue with those sentiments Alan. I have NEVER, EVER accepted the fact that professionals are allowed to compete in any of the events. It makes a mockery of the whole ideal.

Jim ,often the facilities stand as monuments to extravagance , not even used or maintained for that matter. I recently saw a large stadium in South Korea and was told that it had not been used since they had their Olympics ! Montreal only last year finished paying for their Olympic games which took place in 1974 (ot thereabouts- it took the city over thirty years to pay for the games), the splendid looking stadium had massive pieces of concrete falling from it on a regular basis, the roof has been replaced , all paid for with funding that could have been used to maintain infrostructure - Montreal is developing a reputation for infrostructure failures- bridges falling down and masonry falling from high rise buildings due to poor building codes and adverse winter weather - the money would have been better spent maintining such structures , rather than waiting until after people have been killed !
Can you imagine a people driving along a highway and then the concrete bridge they are passing under falling down upon them- that's happened in Montreal !

With regards to President Obama and is plea for the Olympics to go to Chicago. He should not have got involved thats suppose to be sports and nothing to do with Politicians. Not only that the amount of money he spent of flying Airforce One to Copenhagen was ridiculous. Money could have been better spent on other things.
Today I watched a program on the Broad Winged Hawk which spends its summer in New Hampshire. I never realized that it fly's way South during the winter months. Travelling to Pennsylvania and then on to Texas and then moving on to its eventual Winter resting place the Ecuador Rain Forest. It travels 60 miles a day.

I forgot to add I read a very interesting article by Peter Hitchins. I don't always agree with his columns but this one made alot of sense. He was discussing the tragic death of Fiona Pilkington and her daughter. I won't go into detail but if you care to read it just do a search for him I am sure it will come up.

I had a relative who many years ago were all for the 'socialist' way of life. Share the wealth Russia had the right idea. But after years of hard work and saving they became one of the middle class rich. It was funny how their attitude changed, all of a sudden they didnt like the share the wealth idea. They wanted to keep it for themselves afterall they had worked hard for it. I agreed with them, they should keep what they had worked hard for but when I asked what had happened to the ideas of years before they had no answer.

Might be appropriate as America has just celebrated "Columbus Day" The World's First Socialist. Christopher Columbus is widely recognised as the World's First Socialist. Why? Because: When he set out he didn't know where he was going. When he arrived he didn't know where he was. When he got back he didn't know where he had been. And he did it all on borrowed money!

The government cannot give to anybody anything that the
government does not first take from somebody else. The banks lose hundreds of millions, so the government bails them out using our money. So rather than the banks owing hundreds of millions, we the taxpayers owe hundreds of millions. Umm must be some logic there.[} ]

Today it was the amount of leaves that have fallen in our backgarden. We hired someone to come and clean up once they stop falling. They bring a large truck and suck them all up. That is going to cost $1,000 If we dont clean them up now then we have to do it in Spring. Have not ordered the wood for the stove yet was hoping someone would forecast global warming for this winter but seeing as we are suppose to get our first taste of snow this weekend I think thats highly unlikely.
Taken in all my garden ornaments and will be covering the outdoor furniture this weekend. Brings to mind one of my favourite hymns. Come Ye Thankful People Come. The line that sticks in my mind is 'all is safely gathered in'. |
