I still think the term 'fair trial' has a meaning in English, if not in society in general.

It doesn't seem to matter whether a criminal gets a fair trial or not here,you can guarantee the sentence will be a very light one. And sometimes the victim will be penalised rather than the criminal. Human Rights.

Remember dear old Ken Dodd versus the taxman? He had the most expensive barrister, Mr George Carman, a Liverpool jury, plus the rest of Liverpool (and much of the country) behind him. Although he was as guilty as they come, he got the result he wanted and even incorporated his tax "misfortunes" into several more jokes for his stage act!

Thank you for posting that, Noel. That picture was mentioned on the Today programme (newspaper round up) but it wasn't in our paper, so I hadn't seen it and wanted to. What a relief for his mother - she must have been beyond her wits' ends!

What a heart warmimg picture and successful rescue after all the horrendous chaos that is Haiti. We in New Zealand are in the pacific rim of fire and susceptible to earthquakes but the poverty and fragility of the infrastructure in Haiti is devastating to see and read about. It must be hell on earth there at the moment. The rioting and looting are now compounding their problems. We don't know how lucky we are mates!!! sandy

I saw this on TV and the roar that followed the little boy throwing his arms out, was truly memorable.
