Early Leyland Vehicles
#1
I had an email from someone looking for info on early Leyland vehicles. Here's what he said.
quote:

I am looking for someone who can let me have information on early Leyland lorries.
My Brother, who is not on the internet, married into the Wilcockson family, who owned a fleet of Leyland lorries, from steamers to early flatbeds.
He would like to make contact with someone who can exchange information on these early lorries.
Can you help please.

I will forward any of your replies onto this person.

Martin, There is a wealth of information about Leyland Motors, ranging from Sumners steam driven lawn mower, up to the present day at WWW.madeinpreston.com At first glance the name of the site looks a bit of a cheek, but it`s Preston & district which takes in Atkinsons and also the production of the Deltic (Britain`s first diesel locomotives). Anyone remember seeing 10,000 & 10,001 which double-headed the Royal Scot each day?

I remember going to Dick Kerr`s works at Strand Road, Preston, to see No.10000, the first Deltic Engine, makes its debut on the short test track. At that time it was a triumph of British Engineering, Leyland Motors Engineering Society were invited to be there. I saw them on many occasions, and I believe that one is still at the Railway Museum at York. From over the Pennines, Cheerio, William R.

Bill, If you get the chance to go to York, grab it with both hands. Was one of the best days I`d had for years.

Hi Spitfire, We will try to get to York for a day as the local bus people sometimes run day trips during the school holidays, otherwise WE will have to go to Doncaster and catch a mainline train going north. From over the Pennines, Cheerio, William R.
