Martin, There is a wealth of information about Leyland Motors, ranging from Sumners steam driven lawn mower, up to the present day at WWW.madeinpreston.com At first glance the name of the site looks a bit of a cheek, but it`s Preston & district which takes in Atkinsons and also the production of the Deltic (Britain`s first diesel locomotives). Anyone remember seeing 10,000 & 10,001 which double-headed the Royal Scot each day?

I remember going to Dick Kerr`s works at Strand Road, Preston, to see No.10000, the first Deltic Engine, makes its debut on the short test track. At that time it was a triumph of British Engineering, Leyland Motors Engineering Society were invited to be there. I saw them on many occasions, and I believe that one is still at the Railway Museum at York. From over the Pennines, Cheerio, William R.
