Famous Leyland People

I agree that Dickie was quite a character and a brilliant umpire (for a Yorkshireman!). My eyes still water when I see re-plays of him being hit on the shin by a straight drive. My goodness, that must have hurt like hell.

There's a guy from Leyland called Ian Bland who I think went to Wellfield high School - he went on to form the band Dream Frequency, had 2 chart hits, was on Top Of The Pops, and has also remixed loads of other people's records.

I don't know if he still lives in Leyland, but I think he's deffo still around the Preston area somewhere.

Ian, where are you? I've seen you on Friends Reunited, but being as tight-fisted as I ever was (some things aren't meant to change), I haven't paid me subs so can't email ya!

Noel, you mention 'Psychedelic Sid' but wot happened to my post about Phil Cool doing impressions of him-among others- in my front room? Or have I been 'moderated' by you? A story went round once that his wife/girfriend's mother gave Sid £2000 to leave her daughter......

Don't know about that Caroline but Sid is a real character. Not from Leyland of course-Brinscall or Chorley I think, although he did spend many happy hours throwing beer cans at bands on the stage in Leyland Festival Tent! And starring at the George with Moonshine Willy. Still see him from time to time in Chorley-looks surprisingly well considering his past lifestyle!

Will the new £4.2M Lotto winners from Broadfield Drive be now classed as `famous` Leylanders.
No doubt that will be the nearest that I get to winning, as I was in Tesco`s on Saturday morning also (when they bought their lucky dip ticket). LOL

Not me Caroline. What's the story? I've never heard of this chap until last week.

I'm probably suffering from Hotpot Deficiency Syndrome- loss of memory, imaginary conversations.....
Bill, like you, I was surprised that Sid's still around, especially as he was usually out and away whenever I saw him!

'Mark Strange, who has been practicing martial arts for 20 years....'

After 20 years you'd think he'd have perfected it!
