The first team to play against top European opposition. First team to be televised in a floodlit game.
Beat Honved 3-2 and as Honved had several of the players that played in the Hungary team that thrashed England at Wembley caused Stan Cullis to claim that his team were probably the best in Europe. Apart from North End, my favourite team of the fifties.

Would that be the Wolves ? Williams, Slater, Wright, Daly, Wilcox, Cullen, Pye, and many more ;-))

Yes, they had a right winger called Broadbent, I think!! whatever his name he was said to have the smallest feet in the league, size 7, .
Flowers is another name I remember. Anyway, I can't go unfortunately, it's my grand-daughters 2nd birthday, much more important.

What'd you mean "I can't go" What better birthday present is there than to take the young lady to watch North End. I'm beginning to wonder if in fact you may be a secret Burnley fan ;-))) I'm going to hold you to that one Jim. Two nowt, I hope so.

Hancocks, brain's going rapidly, damn this alcohol. Lovely little birthday party, loads of face painting going on, though I copped out at having a pirate's eye patch etc painted on me. Ignored totally the game and have just got home 2-2. Is Jim losing his psychic power?

Jim's out of it. Next he'll be forecasting North End finishing in the top six.

David, You`r quite correct! Senior moments setting in. I did warn you not to hold your breath, didn`t I?

Jim; It would have been so easy for you to have edited your original post and altered the score to 2-2. That's what I would have done. In fact Jim, if I were you...I'd do it right now ;-))
